The 1st Battalion, 1st Marines (1/1) is one of the oldest and most decorated units in the United States Marine Corps. During the Global War on Terror (GWOT) Era, 1/1 deployed multiple times during Operation Iraqi Freedom, including participation in the Second Battle of Fallujah, a key operation to secure the city from insurgent control. 1/1 additionally played an essential role in counterinsurgency efforts during Operation Enduring Freedom.
